Presidency Denies Claims on Tinubu's FBI Records

The Nigerian Presidency has responded to the activities of Von Batten Montague, a United States-based lobbying firm, which has been linked to efforts advocating for the release of President Bola Tinubu's records held by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Transparency activist Aaron Greenspan has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit seeking documents related to Tinubu's forfeiture of over $46,000 to the U.S. government from 1992 to 1993.

Reports suggested that the FBI acknowledged Tinubu as a subject of a criminal investigation for drug trafficking in the early 1990s. Sunday Dare, Special Adviser, Media and Public Communications to President Tinubu, refuted these claims on his X handle, labeling them as fake and politically motivated.

He accused Atiku Abubakar, believed to be behind the lobbying efforts, of seeking foreign validation. Dare demanded evidence for the allegations, emphasizing that no official U.S. government position supports the claims regarding Tinubu's criminal records.
