Omokri Explains Tinubu's FBI Records and Privacy Concerns

On 14 September 2026, Reno Omokri, Nigeria's Ambassador-designate to Mexico, addressed the issue of President Bola Tinubu's FBI records during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. Omokri stated that the reason for not releasing these records is that they contain sensitive personal information.

He dismissed any speculation regarding the President's criminal history, asserting that "the President has no criminal record." Omokri clarified that FBI records do not necessarily imply criminal conduct, as they can also pertain to ordinary individuals. He illustrated his point with a reference to Nigerian singer David Adeleke, known as Davido, who faced allegations regarding paternity and had documents that could prove his innocence but were withheld due to their sensitive nature.

Omokri emphasized that the same principle applies to Tinubu's FBI records, which he claimed contain personal data that should remain private. Additionally, he addressed speculation about Tinubu's age, affirming that the President's declared age is accurate.
