ADC Claims Tinubu's Policies Increase Nigerian Poverty Rates

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has released a statement criticizing President Bola Tinubu's economic policies, asserting that they have led to increased hunger and poverty among Nigerians. The ADC claims that the removal of petrol subsidies has resulted in a significant rise in poverty rates, which they report has increased by 63%.

They argue that this policy change has pushed an additional ten million Nigerians into poverty. The ADC's national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, highlighted that the removal of fuel subsidies has caused petrol prices to surge nearly 500%, with current prices reaching around N1,500 per liter.

Independent surveys indicate that 93% of Nigerians believe the country is heading in the wrong direction economically, with 82% reporting they have gone without enough food at least once in the past year. The ADC criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for dismissing these realities and called for greater transparency in public fund management, questioning the effectiveness of redirected funds from subsidy savings.
