Tobi Amusan Wins Gold at African Championships, Heads to China

Tobi Amusan, a 29-year-old world record holder, won the women's 100m hurdles at the 24th African Senior Athletics Championship held in Accra, securing Nigeria's first gold medal of the competition. This victory is particularly significant as it marks Amusan's third consecutive title in the 100m hurdles at the African Championships, making her the third woman in history to achieve this feat.

Additionally, she is the first athlete to win both the African Championship and African Games gold in the same event three times. Amusan's win is a reclamation of the title she lost two years ago in Cameroon due to illness.

Nigerian athlete Adaobi Tabugo also made headlines by clinching a bronze medal in the event, marking her first individual medal at the championship after finishing fifth two years prior. Following her success in Accra, Amusan is scheduled to compete in the Wanda Diamond League in Shanghai, China, targeting the title she lost in 2024.
