Tomato Jos Secures $2.5M Investment for Tomato Production

Tomato Jos Inc., a vertically integrated tomato farming and processing company in northern Nigeria, has secured a $2.5 million convertible-note investment from the European Union-funded Agriculture Financing Initiative (AgriFI). This investment, made by EDFI Management Company through AgriFI’s ACP Regional Window, aims to expand climate-smart production and strengthen engagement with smallholder farmers.
The funds will be allocated for product expansion, factory upgrades, packaging equipment, and drip irrigation, while also reducing production and energy costs. Tomato Jos sources over half of its raw materials from smallholder farmers in Kaduna State.
European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, emphasized the investment's role in supporting inclusive agriculture. The company plans to increase annual fresh-tomato production from over 4,500 tonnes to about 16,000 tonnes by 2029 and engage 1,500 smallholder farmers, targeting a 150% income increase per farmer by 2029.
CEO Mira Mehta stated the investment will enhance the tomato value chain's resilience.
