Delta Govt Aide Offers Graduate ₦500k After Elumelu Incident

Ossai Ovie Success, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State governor, announced a support package for a graduate who gained attention after a graduation ceremony incident involving Tony Elumelu, the outgoing chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA). The graduate, during the ceremony on August 20, 2026, addressed Elumelu informally, prompting him to request formal titles.

The Delta State government’s offer includes ₦500,000 in cash, round-trip flight tickets to Asaba, five-star hotel accommodation, VIP access to the fourth Delta Social Media Summit on August 27, 2026, and a guided tour of developmental projects in Delta State. Additionally, the graduate may receive an ambassadorial role with the summit.

Ossai emphasized the importance of compassion over criticism, urging the public to support the graduate and highlighting the potential mental health impacts of social media backlash.
