Top Tennis Players Demand Reform in Revenue Distribution

Top tennis players are intensifying calls for reform in prize money distribution and scheduling within the sport. World number one Jannik Sinner stated that players do not feel respected in ongoing discussions with Grand Slam organizers.

Speaking in Rome ahead of the Italian Open, Sinner highlighted the disparity in revenue allocation, noting that the current proposal allocates around 9.5% of tournament revenue to players, which falls short of the expected 22%. He expressed frustration over the lack of progress in negotiations, despite months of discussions, and mentioned that elite athletes receive quicker responses from governing bodies when making demands.

Sinner, along with other top players, including Aryna Sabalenka, is part of a group advocating for reforms, which could include a boycott of Grand Slam events if their core demands are not addressed. The players are pushing for a greater share of tournament revenue and improved input in scheduling decisions, with expectations for discussions to continue leading up to Wimbledon and the US Open.
