Benin Republic Thwarts Coup Attempt with Nigerian Air Force Support

Benin Republic successfully thwarted a coup attempt orchestrated by a group identifying as the Military Committee, aiming to remove President Patrice Talon. This incident follows a worrying trend of military takeovers in neighboring countries like Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali, Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.

Nigeria, deploying its air force assets, actively participated in suppressing the coup and supporting Benin's government. The African Union and ECOWAS standby force, including Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Côte d'Ivoire, and Ghana, swiftly intervened to assist Benin in upholding constitutional order.

Egypt and Algeria are recognized as the strongest military powers in Africa.
