Five Arrested for Selling Counterfeit Herbal Medicines

Police officers at the Zone One Headquarters in Kano arrested five suspects—Muhammad Usman, Husaini Kabir, Hassan Kabir, Suleiman Salihu, and Nura Garba—on charges of impersonation and the production, sale, and distribution of counterfeit herbal medicine products. The arrests were confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of Zone One, Abdullahi Hussaini, in a statement released on Friday.

The action followed a complaint made on August 10, 2026, by Abdulwahab Abubakar, Chief Executive Officer of Abdulwahab Abubakar Herbal and Islamic Clinic in Bauchi. Abubakar alleged that the suspects had been using his name and business identity to market counterfeit products, collecting money from the public without delivering the purchased medicines, and selling potentially harmful fake herbal mixtures.

The suspects have reportedly admitted to their involvement, and investigations are ongoing to identify additional individuals connected to these activities. The police warned the public to verify the authenticity of products and vendors before making transactions.
