Manchester City Signs Enzo Fernandez for £125 Million

On September 1, Manchester City finalized a £125 million deal to acquire Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, concluding one of the summer's most prolonged transfer negotiations. The 25-year-old has received permission to undergo a medical examination as City aims to finalize the transfer before the window closes.

This fee matches the British transfer record, reflecting City's commitment to enhancing their midfield. Fernandez, who joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for approximately £107 million, has been a pivotal figure at Stamford Bridge, making 170 appearances and scoring 31 goals.

His departure follows a period of speculation regarding his future, particularly after Chelsea set a deadline for offers in August. City’s pursuit was influenced by Fernandez's prior relationship with Enzo Maresca, who managed him at Chelsea and is now at City.

The transfer also necessitates Chelsea to seek a replacement for their captain, who played a crucial role in their recent successes, including winning the Conference League and the 2025 Club World Cup.
