Troops Arrest Suspected Kidnapper with AK-47 in Edo

On September 12, 2026, troops from the 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, operating under "Operation Wabaizigan," arrested a suspected kidnapper named Olamide Oyeniyi in the Obaretin Community, located in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. This operation was part of ongoing efforts to disrupt criminal activities and ensure the safety of major transportation routes in the area.

The assistant director of Army Public Relations for the 4 Brigade, Kennedy Anyanwu, reported that the troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the suspect. Additionally, other items seized included a Tecno mobile phone, two bags, a torchlight, a music box, and assorted charms.

The suspect and the recovered items are currently in custody for further investigation, with efforts underway to determine Oyeniyi's connections to other criminal elements and his potential involvement in kidnapping activities along the route.
