Nigerian Troops Arrest 312 Terrorists, Rescue 409 Hostages

In February 2026, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) reported that Nigerian troops arrested 312 suspected terrorists and rescued 409 hostages across various operations. Major General Michael Onoja disclosed that operations were primarily aimed at countering Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the northeast.

Notable achievements included the neutralization of multiple terrorists, the recovery of arms and ammunition, and the facilitation of the surrender of 46 insurgents along with their families. Significant operations took place in Borno and Yobe States, where troops intercepted vehicles carrying supplies for Boko Haram and apprehended illegal miners.

The military's efforts also extended to the northwest, addressing terrorism and kidnapping issues, with 36 suspects arrested and 251 hostages rescued. The operations demonstrated a coordinated approach involving air and ground forces, contributing to the restoration of safety and economic stability in affected regions.
