Nigerian Troops Rescue 812 Victims, Crush Terror Cells

In the first quarter of 2026, Nigerian troops achieved significant operational successes against terrorist networks, rescuing 812 victims and arresting 1,359 suspects. Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed these achievements during a media briefing in Abuja.

The operations led to the surrender of 197 insurgents, the recovery of 458 weapons, and the seizure of 547,920 liters of stolen petroleum products. Notably, troops dealt a major blow to ISWAP leadership with the confirmed death of senior figure Abu Yahya al Muhajir in an airstrike in Sambisa Forest.

The military also repelled multiple attacks in Borno and Yobe, resulting in numerous insurgent casualties. In the North West, operations led to the rescue of 386 kidnap victims and the arrest of 114 suspects.

The military emphasized its commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and support security agencies.
