Troops Disrupt Terrorist Tax Scheme in Yobe State

Troops from the Joint Task Force North East, under the command of Major General Michael Onoja, uncovered a terrorist tax collection scheme in Yobe State, apprehending three suspects, including a tax collector from Kafiya village in Geidam Local Government Area. Since the establishment of the operation safe corridor in 2015, a total of 122,843 insurgents have surrendered.

The military has maintained significant pressure on terrorist movements, successfully repelling several attacks and disrupting logistical networks. Notably, between March 7 and March 11, 2026, troops neutralized 20 terrorists, including a high-value target, Abu Yusu, and recovered weapons and improvised explosive devices.

Additionally, troops intercepted illicit fuel supplies intended for insurgent operations and rescued kidnapped civilians. The operations included close air support to repel coordinated night attacks by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on March 11, 2026.
