Nigerian Troops Repel Terrorist Attack in Yobe State

On March 9 and 10, 2023, troops from the Nigerian Army's 120 Task Force Battalion, stationed in Goniri, Yobe State, successfully repelled a coordinated terrorist attack. The assault, which occurred during the night, involved attempts by terrorists from the Islamic State West Africa Province to storm the military location.

According to Army spokesperson Lt. Col.

Sani Uba, the troops detected the insurgents' advance using surveillance assets and engaged them in a firefight, resulting in heavy casualties for the attackers. A total of 20 terrorists were confirmed killed, including a senior commander identified as Abu Yusu Munzir Dursula.

Although the defensive perimeter of the base was temporarily breached, the troops maintained control of the location. Some military vehicles were damaged due to the intensity of the assault, and one soldier was injured but is currently in stable condition.

Following the attack, ground troops, supported by air components, conducted search operations in nearby communities to locate fleeing terrorists.
