Troops Neutralize Nine Militants in Zamfara, Katsina

Nigerian troops conducted operations in Zamfara and Katsina states from May 1 to May 3, 2026, successfully foiling a terrorist plot and neutralizing nine militants, including two notorious kingpins, Anaruwa Gomina and Kachalla Idi Aiki. The operations, led by Lt.

Col. Olaniyi Osoba of the Nigerian Army's 8 Division, Sector 2, involved engagements along the Turar-Yantumaki road in the Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area, where troops confronted armed terrorists on motorcycles.

In the initial encounter, four militants were neutralized, and two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, and two motorcycles were recovered. A subsequent operation in the Anka Local Government Area resulted in the death of five additional terrorists, including the two kingpins.

The troops also recovered further weapons and cash during the operations. Lt.

Col. Osoba confirmed the commitment of the military to restoring peace in the northwest and urged residents to remain vigilant against suspicious activities.
