Troops Rescue 21 Kidnap Victims in Kogi State Operation

On August 31, 2026, troops from the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, in a coordinated operation with the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, local hunters, and vigilante groups, successfully rescued 21 kidnapped victims in Kogi State. The operation took place in the Egume and Ochaja forest areas of Dekina Local Government Area, following reports of a mass abduction along the Alloma–Ejule–Itobe road axis.

Acting on credible intelligence, the joint team mobilized from Headquarters 21 Battalion to conduct a thorough search of the forests. The rescued victims included 8 males and 13 females.

Unfortunately, one male victim suffered a gunshot wound and was evacuated for immediate medical treatment. The rescued individuals are currently in the custody of the troops, with arrangements being made for their handover to the appropriate authorities.

Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, the Chief of Army Staff, commended the efforts of the troops and other security personnel, urging the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information to aid in combating kidnapping and other criminal activities.
