Nigerian Troops Intercept 30kg of Cannabis Sativa, Dismantle Illicit Drug Supply Network

Nigerian troops, part of the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, intercepted 30 kg of Cannabis Sativa and dismantled a major illicit drug supply network supporting terrorist activities in the North East region. The operation led to the arrest of a 65-year-old woman, Hauwa Abulazeez, in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

She is suspected of being a major supplier of Cannabis Sativa to Boko Haram terrorist elements operating across several communities in the theater of operations. The suspect allegedly supplied illicit substances to terrorist cells in Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, and Uvu Gaya, serving as a critical conduit in the distribution chain across multiple communities in the region.

The arrest was made following credible intelligence received on January 23, 2026. The suspect's source of Cannabis Sativa was traced to Baruwa Local Government Area in Taraba State.

The operation resulted in the recovery of 14 compressed blocks of Cannabis Sativa, totaling 30 kilograms. The military's seizure significantly disrupted the supply line intended to sustain terrorist and criminal activities.

The suspect is currently in custody undergoing preliminary investigations, with efforts ongoing to identify and dismantle the wider trafficking network.
