Troops Rescue Kidnap Victims, Intercept Gun Runners in Zamfara

On August 23, 2026, troops from Sector 2 intercepted a vehicle along the Kaura Namoda–Shinkafi Road, leading to the arrest of three suspected gun runners and the recovery of an AK-103-2 rifle, a magazine, and 30 rounds of ammunition concealed in a bag of millet. Preliminary investigations indicated that the weapons were intended for transport to Yar-Galadima in Maru Local Government Area.

The suspects are currently in military custody for further investigation. In a separate operation, troops responded to a distress call regarding an attack on motorists along the Anka–Gummi Road, where terrorists were attempting to abduct captives.

The troops engaged the attackers, forcing them to flee and abandoning six victims, who were subsequently rescued. Three of the victims sustained minor injuries and were evacuated to a medical facility, where they were reported to be in stable condition.

Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja stated that these operations reflect the military's commitment to disrupting arms supply chains and protecting communities in the North-West.
