Troops Kill Over 20 ISWAP Insurgents in Yobe Attack

On March 9 and 10, 2026, troops from the Joint Task Force North East successfully repelled a coordinated attack by ISWAP insurgents targeting a military station in Goniri, Yobe State. The assault was detected through surveillance assets, leading to a swift military response.

Sani Uba reported that the troops utilized superior firepower and defensive maneuvers, supported by air components, to degrade the insurgents' fighting capability during intense firefights. The operation resulted in the neutralization of 20 terrorists, including senior commander Abu Yusu Munzir Dursula.

Additionally, troops recovered several weapons, including machine guns, AK-47 rifles, and improvised explosive devices. Following the engagement, clearance operations were conducted in the Timbuktu Triangle area, where further bodies of terrorists were discovered.

Soldiers injured during the encounter were evacuated for medical treatment and are in stable condition. The military remains committed to defeating insurgents and restoring peace in the northeast.
