Troops Kill Over 20 ISWAP Insurgents in Yobe Assault

On March 9-10, 2026, troops from the Joint Task Force North East, under Operation Hadin Kai, successfully repelled an assault by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Yobe State. The attack occurred during the early hours of March 10, when insurgents attempted to encircle military positions near Goniri village and Ngamdu Junction.

Lt. Col. Sani Uba reported that the troops responded swiftly with superior firepower and coordinated tactics, effectively repelling the attack. Reinforcements were quickly mobilized, and air support was provided, which significantly degraded the insurgents' combat capabilities.

Over 20 insurgents were killed, including a senior commander identified as Abu Yusu Munzir Dursula. The troops recovered several weapons and equipment abandoned by the insurgents during their retreat.

Following the battle, additional patrols were conducted, leading to the discovery of more insurgent bodies. One soldier sustained injuries and was evacuated for medical attention, with their condition reported as stable.
