Troops Neutralize Bandits, Recover AK-47 in Taraba

On May 24, 2026, troops from the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, neutralized two suspected bandits in Taraba State. The operation was conducted following credible intelligence reports that indicated gunfire in a forest area near the Donga Local Government Area, specifically around the Akat District.

Upon arrival, the troops engaged in a gun duel with the armed suspects, resulting in the neutralization of the two bandits. Items recovered from the scene included an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, five rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two mobile phones.

Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, acting as the Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, confirmed the encounter. Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, urging them to maintain operational momentum in the fight against criminal elements in Taraba State.
