Joint Task Force Troops Rescue Herders, Repel Ambush
On October 28, 2026, troops from Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force, Operation Fansan Yamma, were ambushed while conducting a patrol on the Anka-Guruzu Road in the North-West. The terrorists attacked from both sides but retreated after the troops responded with superior firepower, inflicting heavy casualties.
One soldier sustained a gunshot injury and was evacuated in stable condition. In a separate operation in Sokoto State, the troops thwarted an attempt by terrorists to rustle livestock and abduct herders at Takasaba village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops mobilized quickly, forcing the attackers to flee and abandon 520 livestock and two abducted herders, identified as Malam Sulaiman, 50, and Nasiru Sulaiman, 14. The rescued herders were handed over to local authorities.
Major General W.B. Idris, the Theatre Commander, commended the troops for their efforts and urged continued offensives against terrorist groups.
