Troops Defend Borno Base from ISWAP Attack, Recover Arms

On August 10, 2026, at approximately 12:20 a.m., troops from the Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area, Borno State. The assault aimed to overrun the troops' position but was thwarted by a determined response from the soldiers, leading to heavy casualties among the attackers.

The Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, reported that several terrorists were neutralized, and weapons, ammunition, and communication gadgets were recovered. Surveillance footage confirmed the evacuation of casualties by the retreating terrorists.

Although some troops sustained injuries due to a temporary breach in the base's defenses, they were airlifted and are currently stable. The Army has maintained a presence around the base to monitor the area and prevent further attacks, urging local residents to report any suspicious activities.
