Troops Defeat ISWAP Attack in Borno State, No Casualties

On 15 August 2026, at approximately 0200 hours, troops from the 162 Amphibious Battalion, part of the Joint Task Force North-East under Operation Hadin Kai, thwarted an attempted assault by ISWAP terrorists on Forward Operating Base Mandaragirau in Biu Local Government Area, Borno State. The terrorists launched a simultaneous attack from two fronts.

Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer, reported that early-warning and surveillance systems detected the advancing terrorists, prompting a combat team to engage them. The troops engaged in a heavy exchange of fire, decisively defeating the attackers on one front.

The second group of terrorists attempted to infiltrate the camp but was also met with superior firepower. The insurgents were forced to withdraw, and troops pursued them, eliminating several terrorists and recovering significant equipment, including AK-47 rifles and a rocket-propelled grenade launcher.

There were no casualties among the troops. The Theatre Command commended the bravery and tactical excellence of the 162 Amphibious Battalion.
