Troops Repel ISWAP Attack in Borno, Recover Weapons

On Monday at approximately 12:20 a.m., troops of Operation Hadin Kai repelled an attack by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajiram, Nganzai local government area of Borno State. The Acting Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, reported that a large number of terrorists attempted to overrun the troops’ position but were met with determined and effective fire, leading to their forced withdrawal after suffering heavy casualties.

During the engagement, several terrorists were neutralized, and troops recovered weapons, ammunition, and communication gadgets. Surveillance footage confirmed that the retreating terrorists evacuated several casualties.

Some soldiers sustained injuries due to a breach in part of the base’s defenses, which also caused damage to combat-enabling equipment and vehicles from rocket-propelled grenade fire. The injured personnel were evacuated by air and are currently stable while receiving medical attention.

Troops remain deployed in and around the base to monitor developments and prevent further terrorist engagements.
