Nigerian Army Defeats ISWAP Assault in Borno State

On August 15, 2023, at approximately 02:00 hours, the Nigerian Army repelled a coordinated assault by ISWAP terrorists on Forward Operating Base Mandaragirau located in Biu Local Government Area, Borno State. The attackers launched a simultaneous assault from two directions, but Nigerian troops successfully neutralized several terrorists and recovered weapons and combat equipment.

Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer for the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, reported that there were no casualties among the Nigerian troops during the engagement. Surveillance footage later confirmed the effectiveness of the operation, showing terrorists dragging away the bodies of their fallen comrades towards the Timbuktu Triangle.

The Theatre Command commended the troops of the 162 Amphibious Battalion for their courage, professionalism, and tactical proficiency, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining control of the battlespace and ensuring lasting peace and security in the North-East region.
