Troops Defeat ISWAP Attack on Yobe Military Base

On May 9-10, 2026, troops from the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled an attack by ISWAP terrorists on the 120 Task Force Battalion located in Goniri, Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State. The attack commenced late on Saturday and continued into the early hours of Sunday.

Lt. Col. Sani Uba, the media informant from the headquarters of the Joint Task Force, confirmed the incident in a statement. The terrorists advanced towards Mandunari around midnight but were detected early by the troops.

The operation, supported by the air component of the Nigerian Army Aviation, involved a coordinated air-land assault against the retreating insurgents. The aftermath revealed a blood trail and significant casualties among the terrorists, with heavy losses reported.

The troops recovered military equipment, including a general-purpose machine gun, two PKT guns, five AK-47 rifles, and assorted ammunition. A soldier was wounded but stabilized and received medical attention.

This encounter followed another coordinated ISWAP attack repelled by troops from the 27 Brigade in Buni Gari, where approximately 50 terrorists were reportedly killed.
