Troops Rescue 22 Kidnapped Victims in Sokoto State

On June 18, 2026, troops from the Troop Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, under Operation Fansan Yamma, successfully rescued 22 kidnapped victims in Sokoto State and thwarted an abduction attempt. The first incident occurred along the Sabon Birni-Shinkafi road near Kura Mota Village, where terrorists reportedly blocked the highway, attacked two civilian vehicles, and abducted several passengers.

Aliyu Danja confirmed that troops swiftly intervened, launching a coordinated pursuit supported by aerial surveillance, which pressured the terrorists to abandon their captives. As a result, 17 kidnapped passengers were successfully rescued.

Additionally, troops responded to a distress call from Chohi Village in Isa Local Government Area, where armed terrorists attempted to abduct farmers working in their fields. Troops rapidly deployed to the area, leading to the successful rescue of five kidnapped farmers.

The military emphasized its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the North West region.
