Troops Rescue Kidnap Victims, Recover Weapons in Zamfara

On June 22, 2023, troops conducted a routine offensive patrol in the Bagega area of Anka Local Government, Zamfara State, leading to the rescue of three kidnapping victims: 28-year-old Zainab Muhammadu from Bukkuyum Local Government, 20-year-old Hafsat Ibrahim, and 17-year-old Halira Usman from Mashiga Taka Lafiya village in Zuru Local Government, Kebbi State. The victims had spent three months in captivity before being freed due to sustained pressure on their captors.

Following their rescue, they were evacuated for necessary medical attention. Additionally, on June 23, troops from the 8 Division Garrison Sector 2, acting on intelligence regarding suspected terrorist movements in the Kwanar Jollof area of Jangeru village, Shinkafi Local Government, Sokoto State, laid an ambush.

They engaged the suspected terrorists, forcing them to abandon their mission and flee the area. Items recovered included a PKT machine gun, ammunition, two motorcycles, and materials used to restrain victims, reflecting the effectiveness of the intelligence-led operations.
