Troops Rescue 33 Kidnapped Passengers in Zamfara

On August 8, 2026, troops of the Joint Task Force North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, successfully rescued 33 passengers who had been kidnapped by terrorists in the Tsafe local government area of Zamfara state. The rescue operation was initiated following credible intelligence that terrorists had intercepted commuters traveling through the Magazu area and were moving them toward an unknown location.

Troops from Sector 2 of the operation, in collaboration with personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, mobilized to the site and engaged the attackers in a firefight. The military reported effective fire, which compelled the terrorists to abandon the victims and flee into nearby bushes.

All 33 abducted individuals were rescued unharmed, with no casualties reported among the passengers. Following the rescue, troops commenced an exploitation of the area to track the fleeing terrorists.

The Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism, reaffirming the command's commitment to protecting citizens and securing transportation routes in the North-West region.
