APM Terminals Launches Drug Testing for Truck Drivers

APM Terminals Apapa, in collaboration with the Nigerian Port Authority, has initiated a drug and alcohol testing campaign targeting external truck drivers to improve safety at the port. This initiative was announced in a recent statement by Adebowale Ibrahim, the Lagos Port Manager, who emphasized the importance of ensuring that drivers are fully alert and in the right state of mind for safe operations.

Kamal Alhraishat, the Managing Director of APM Terminals Apapa, highlighted that this initiative is part of a broader safety commitment, noting a significant milestone of 636 days without lost time injuries. The campaign aims to act as a strong deterrent against substance abuse among truck drivers, which poses risks to road users and port personnel.

Alhraishat stressed that even a single lapse could lead to serious incidents involving trucks handling cargo. The campaign combines testing with awareness efforts to drive behavioral change and reinforce the commitment to proactive risk management for safer operations within Nigeria's busiest port.
