Trump Visits Ireland for Talks Amid Iran War Concerns

Donald Trump arrived in Ireland for a 48-hour visit that is not an official state visit. Discussions during his visit are expected to cover economic relations, Ireland’s concerns regarding the Iran war, and other politically sensitive issues.

This visit occurs as Trump’s Republican Party campaigns to retain majorities in Congress ahead of the November midterm elections, amid rising economic concerns in the U.S. related to the Iran conflict. Trump was welcomed at Dublin Airport by Ireland’s deputy prime minister and foreign minister.

Anti-war and anti-Trump demonstrations are planned in Dublin and near the Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg, where Trump is expected to present the Irish Open tournament trophy. Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin has emphasized the importance of maintaining close ties with Washington.

Trump is also scheduled to meet Irish President Catherine Connolly, who protested during his previous visit in 2019. The Trump Organisation has controlled the Doonbeg golf course since 2014.
