Nigerian President Bola Tinubu received correspondence from United States President Donald Trump on July 6, 2026, offering commendation for his management of the country's security challenges. The message expressed Trump's backing for Tinubu's initiatives against terrorism and violence targeting Christian communities.

The Nigerian Presidency released this letter publicly via official statements on Wednesday. Trump characterized the partnership as 'a true honour,' emphasizing his willingness to join Tinubu in fighting terrorist organizations and bolstering Nigeria's strength.

He acknowledged prior communication from Tinubu and lauded the decisive measures undertaken for Nigerians confronting insecurity. The correspondence highlighted how vital the Washington-Abuja partnership remains for tackling regional tensions.

Tinubu's administration viewed the letter as endorsement of its security policies. During a Wednesday television interview, Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, asserted that this message reflected progress achieved by the administration on both security fronts and international standing with America.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga and other officials pointed to it as recognition of Nigeria's counter-terrorism approach gaining momentum. The message also addressed military collaboration between both nations.

Trump's correspondence made reference to American Special Operations personnel deployed for instruction of Nigerian armed forces.
