Trump’s Letter to Tinubu Not an Endorsement, Says Frank

Timi Frank, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, clarified that a letter from U.S. President Donald Trump to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu should be interpreted as a standard diplomatic communication rather than an endorsement of Tinubu's administration.

The letter, which was made public weeks after being dated July 6, praised Tinubu's "decisive leadership" and mentioned the deployment of U.S. Special Operations Forces, including Navy SEAL Team 6, to assist Nigeria's military in combating terrorism.

Frank emphasized that such diplomatic exchanges are common and should not be misconstrued as political support for Tinubu's leadership or economic policies. He urged the Tinubu administration to publish the letter for public evaluation, asserting that credibility and integrity must be earned through transparent governance rather than through diplomatic correspondence.

Frank reiterated that the U.S. commitment to democracy and security in Nigeria should not be mistaken for an endorsement of Tinubu's administration.
