Kalu's media team released a statement dismissing the allegations as misleading and not reflective of the broader sentiment in Abia North. The statement highlighted Kalu's widespread support across the senatorial district, including Ohafia.

The youth group had previously declared Kalu persona non grata in the community, citing his alleged branding of Ohafia indigenes as supporters of Biafra and IPOB during the last election. Kalu's consistent defense of Igbo causes at the national level and his development initiatives in the constituency were also emphasized in his response.
