Tunji Disu Appointed Acting IGP Amid Security Concerns

On February 24, 2026, President Bola Tinubu appointed Tunji Disu as the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), succeeding Kayode Egbetokun, who resigned amid criticism regarding his tenure, particularly concerning high rates of kidnapping and violent crime. Disu, who has over 30 years of service in the Nigeria Police Force since 1992, gained prominence for leading the intelligence response team in 2021 and for his role in stabilizing the Rapid Response Squad from 2015 to 2021.

His leadership was marked by efforts to rebrand the unit and build public trust through community engagement. Prior to this appointment, Disu served as the Assistant Inspector General overseeing the Force Criminal Investigation Department and held degrees in English Education, Public Administration, Criminology, and Security Legal Psychology.
