PDP Denies Congress Plans in South West Region

The People's Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of Taminu Turaki, has officially denied any plans to hold a congress in the South West region. Sanya Atofari, the party's zonal public secretary, described circulating claims about a scheduled congress as false and mischievous.

In a statement issued on Tuesday from Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, Atofari urged the public and party members to disregard these reports, clarifying that the party has not approved any announcement regarding a congress in the South West. He explained that five out of six South West states do not require a congress, as their state executives were legally constituted, except for Osun State, which has a caretaker committee validly appointed until January 2026.

Atofari further emphasized that the PDP remains focused on rebuilding the party, maintaining discipline, and fostering internal democracy, calling on members to participate in ongoing membership registration to strengthen the party's structure.
