Police Arrest Two in Murder of Kano Commentator

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects linked to the murder of Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu, a prominent political commentator, who was attacked at his residence in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area, on Monday at approximately 11:30 PM. The police received a distress call from the Vigilante Group Commander reporting the attack.

Kumbotso Police Division operatives responded and transported Danshagamu to Murtala Mohammed Specialists Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The killing has sparked outrage among opposition politicians and rights advocates, including former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who described the incident as a "horrific attack." Amnesty International Nigeria condemned the murder, emphasizing the need for protection of critics in a democracy.

The police statement indicated that the arrests followed an intelligence-driven operation and that further investigations, including forensic procedures, are ongoing. The Commissioner of Police expressed condolences to the victim's family and assured the public of a thorough investigation.
