Violence Erupts in Katsina Over Garri Dispute, Two Dead

On April 4, a violent dispute over garri and sachet water in Kokami Village, Katsina, resulted in the deaths of two men. The conflict began when a trader known as K.C.

Jone allegedly stabbed Auwal during an altercation at a shop. Auwal was rushed to Abdullahi Makama Hospital but was later confirmed dead.

His death incited a mob attack against Jone, who was subsequently killed, and his body was set ablaze near a highway. Following these events, four suspects were arrested in connection with the mob killing.

A police spokesperson condemned the violence, describing it as unfortunate and unacceptable, and emphasized that individuals should not take the law into their own hands. Mu Azu, the state’s security personnel, announced that joint patrols were deployed to maintain peace in the area.

The Governor of Katsina expressed condolences to the victims' families and urged community leaders to promote peace and coexistence.
