Two Injured in Police Arrest Attempt in Anambra State

On Wednesday, during an attempted arrest by police officers at the River Niger Head Bridge in Onitsha, Anambra State, two individuals sustained gunshot injuries. The incident occurred around noon, causing panic and disrupting traffic along the Onitsha-Awka Expressway.

Eyewitnesses reported that the victims were shot during a confrontation with police, who were questioning them. The situation escalated, leading to skirmishes around the Bridgehead Market.

Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the suspects allegedly resisted arrest, prompting the police to fire shots. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, visited the scene and later the victims at the hospital, assuring them of the command's support and pledging to cover their medical expenses.

He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the incident and called for public calm while the investigation proceeds.
