Police Operative and Six Gunmen Killed in Anambra Shootout

On Saturday, a deadly gun battle took place in Amiyi, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra state, resulting in the deaths of one police operative and six gunmen. Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesman in Anambra state and a Superintendent of Police, reported that the shootout occurred during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout.

The joint security team, which included police operatives from the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu, personnel from the State Security Service, officials from the 302 Artillery Regiment in Onitsha, officers from the Nigerian Navy, and members of the Agunaechemba Vigilante group, trekked for about four hours through difficult terrain to reach the location. Upon arrival, the suspects opened fire, leading to a prolonged exchange of gunfire.

The operation resulted in the neutralization of six armed suspects, while others fled, some reportedly injured. The team recovered two pump-action guns and dismantled the criminals' camps.

However, the operation also recorded the death of one security operative and injuries to another due to an explosive device that detonated in the area.
