Troops Repel ISWAP Attack in Magumeri, Casualties Reported

In a fierce gun battle, troops from the Joint Task Force under Operation Hadin Kai successfully repelled an attack by the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) on a military base in Magumeri, Borno State. The assault occurred in the early hours, with terrorists attempting to infiltrate the forward operating base under poor visibility.

Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba reported that the troops inflicted heavy casualties on the insurgents, recovering a large cache of arms and ammunition, including automatic weapons and AK-47 rifles. Despite sustaining injuries, two soldiers died during the encounter, while others received medical attention.

The military confirmed that the insurgents suffered significant losses, with blood trails and bodies left behind. Additionally, a partnership between Nigeria and the United States was strengthened with the inauguration of the Defense Institute Technical Work Group (DITWG) aimed at enhancing military operations and counterterrorism efforts in the region.
