UBEC Expands Basic Education in Kano with 4,000 Classrooms

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is expanding access to basic education in Kano State through the construction of nearly 4,000 classrooms and support for the recruitment of more teachers. UBEC Executive Secretary Aisha Garba announced this initiative during education engagements in Kano, alongside Minister of Education Dr Tunji Alausa, Minister of State for Education Prof.

Suwaiba Ahmad, and Governor Abba Yusuf. The project aims to improve educational infrastructure and address the shortage of qualified teachers.

Garba emphasized that quality education requires both adequate infrastructure and qualified personnel, stating that every Nigerian child deserves access to quality education. The recruitment program in Kano is noted as one of the largest education investments in Nigeria, with over 16,000 teachers recruited, including a recent batch.

The initiative aims to bridge the teacher gap in underserved communities. Garba praised the collaboration between the Federal Government, UBEC, and state governments in achieving inclusive education.

Yusuf Kabir, Chairman of the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board, confirmed that the recruitment process was transparent and merit-based.
