UBEC Mobilizes N100bn for Education, Builds 4,600 Classrooms

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) has successfully mobilized over N100 billion in previously unaccessed grants and has constructed 4,600 classrooms as part of its strategic blueprint for 2025-2031. Aisha Garba, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, disclosed this information during a media luncheon for education correspondents in Abuja.

The commission has partnered with state Universal Basic Education Boards to renovate 6,100 classrooms, provide 2,780 toilets, and supply 334,000 pieces of school furniture across Nigeria. Additionally, UBEC has supported the establishment of 2,300 early childhood care and development education centers to strengthen foundational learning for young children.

Garba emphasized the need for a renewed hope agenda from the federal government to improve educational outcomes, empower teachers, and expand opportunities for millions of Nigerian children. The commission is also focusing on expanding digital literacy centers and promoting artificial intelligence and coding in schools.
