UBEC Urges States to Access ₦65 Billion in Education Funds

Aisha Garba, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), called on states to urgently access over ₦65 billion in counterpart funds and utilize approximately ₦267 billion in previously released intervention funds. This statement was made during the 30th quarterly meeting of UBEC management with executive chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) in Asaba, Delta State.

Garba highlighted that while states had accessed over ₦177 billion in UBE matching grants, a significant amount of funding remained unutilized. She stressed the importance of transforming these resources into measurable improvements in schools and outcomes for Nigerian children.

Garba also announced the review of UBEC’s Ten-Year Strategic Roadmap, extending it to 2026–2035, and introduced the Basic Education Action Plan Management System (BEAP-MS) to digitize state action plans. Additionally, she discussed the Whole School Approach aimed at comprehensive school improvement and the successful conduct of the National Learning Assessment in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.
