Uber Cuts 3,300 Jobs Globally Amid Restructuring Plans

On September 2, Uber Technologies announced a significant organizational overhaul, resulting in the elimination of approximately 3,300 jobs worldwide, which constitutes about 10% of its global workforce. The announcement was made by Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi in a message to employees.

The job cuts are part of a strategy to reduce management layers and streamline operations, addressing the complexity that arose from the company's expansion over the past five years. Khosrowshahi indicated that the restructuring would reduce the number of employees positioned seven or more layers below the CEO by 20% and halve the number of teams with only one or two direct reports.

Additionally, Uber is consolidating its delivery operations and technology teams. The company is also tightening its remote work policy, requiring most employees to work from an office, with only about 1% remaining fully remote.

The changes aim to cut costs and redirect savings towards growth and innovation.
