ADC Blames Tinubu for Uber's Exit from Nigeria

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) condemned the Bola Tinubu-led federal government for the exit of Uber from Nigeria, describing the country as a "graveyard of businesses." In a statement issued in Abuja, ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi stated that the increasing number of businesses shutting down or scaling back operations reflects a lack of confidence in the Tinubu administration's economic management. The ADC pointed out that while the government celebrated a marginal 0.2 percentage-point improvement in Gross Domestic Product (GDP), businesses were closing, jobs were disappearing, and poverty was rising, affecting an estimated 140 million Nigerians.

The party challenged the government to clarify how this GDP growth translates into tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary Nigerians. The ADC attributed Uber's exit after 12 years to a hostile business environment, exacerbated by rising energy costs following the removal of the petrol subsidy and naira devaluation.

They also referenced a report from the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria indicating that 767 manufacturing companies had ceased operations in Nigeria.
