Uche Nnaji Seeks Settlement in UNN Certificate Forgery Case

Uche Nnaji, a former Minister of Science and Technology, is seeking an out-of-court settlement in a certificate forgery lawsuit against the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). The lawsuit was filed in October 2025 after investigations revealed allegations that Nnaji presented a forged degree and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate, which resulted in his resignation from office.

During a recent court proceeding, Nnaji's counsel, Op Muritala, informed the court of ongoing discussions aimed at resolving the matter outside of litigation and requested an adjournment to allow for negotiations. The legal representatives for the Ministry of Education and the National Universities Commission were reportedly unaware of these developments but did not oppose the request for adjournment.

The presiding judge, Hauwa Yilwa, declined to entertain the application at this stage, considering the settlement efforts. A federal government panel, led by Tunji Alausa, found that Nnaji did not graduate from UNN despite his admission in the 1981/82 academic session, raising questions about the authenticity of his certificates.
