UK Government Introduces Fee Waivers for Child Citizenship

The UK government has published guidance identifying six citizenship registration routes eligible for fee waivers for children under 18. These routes allow children who are eligible to register for British citizenship under the British Nationality Act 1981 to request a waiver for the registration fees.

The waiver is contingent on eligibility, meaning not all applicants will qualify. The six specific application forms include: Form MN1 for general registration of children under 18; Forms S2 and S3 for stateless persons; Form T for individuals born in the UK after January 1, 1983, who lived there until age 10; Form B(OS) for those with limited British nationality statuses; Form B(OTA) for British Overseas Territories citizens; and Form EM for those who resided in Hong Kong before 1997.

This initiative aims to alleviate financial burdens on families, particularly those with multiple children or complex nationality situations.
